Transvaginal US During Herpes Outbreak?

Question

(TMI) I am scheduled to have my first ultrasound tomorrow around 5-6 weeks.  I noticed a very minor herpes outbreak, which is rare for me now days, but I only ever get them on my butt.  This one particularly is only a couple tiny spots on my anus. Will the tech still do a transvaginal ultrasound?  Do I need to tell her since it's nowhere near where she'll be with the wand?

(UPDATE) thanks for the input!  I have emailed my doc and if they don't respond before my appointment in the morning I will call to make sure we're good go.

Absolutely tell the tech. It would be irresponsible not too. You'd potentially be exposing them to an STI. If I were your medical professional, I'd want to know prior to coming into contact with your genitals.

I personally would tell her/the doctor since you will be shedding.  She should be taking precautions anyway but its always nice to know.

It really up to your comfort lever whether you want to tell the tech or not. Based on other people's responses, i dont think my answer will make any friends. But the truth is that your medical condition has no impact on the techs job. In other words, it *shouldn't affect how she or he does their job. I have worked in the medical field for several years and the number one rule is to use univeral precaution. We are supposed to assume that EVERYONE is contagious and take proper precautions according to that. The ultrasound wand will have a long cover so that it doesnt come into direct contact with you and they are supposed to take the whole wand out of the room to be disinfect before its used one someone else. The bed/exam table will also have a cover that is removed after you leave and it should also be wiped down before the next patient. In the medical field only relevant information can be shared among medical personnel involved in your care. If your doctor thought that your herpes outbreak was relevant info that the tech needed to know, he or she would share it otherwise they are legally required to keep it to themselves. 
If it makes you feel better to tell the tech, go ahead but you arent required to do so.

I don't know if you need to tell her and honestly she will have gloves on and won't even look at your vagina, you will be drained in a sheet. 
Also, you need to start taking acyclovir, so that you can stop your outbreaks during pregnancy. Your hormones are in over drive which is probably going to make you break out more. It can be deadly to a baby if it goes through your birth canal while you are shedding or having an outbreak. I'm not being judgmental, I have hsv2. My cousin has it as well and have birth while having an outbreak, her baby contacted it and ended up dieing during a liver transplant.

You do need to tell your doc you have herpes. I have it, though I am asymptotic.....never had an outbreak. Doc told me antivirals in the Theo trimester so I won't have an outbreak when I give birth.
