What is nanny supposed to do when baby naps?

My 8 months old naps about 3 times a day about an hour length each nap. I see nanny on her phone most often or sometimes she takes a nap on the couch. I am a FTM. Is that is how nannies are?

Unless you have an arrangement where she is also to perform light housework, I would say this is normal.

I personally would want my kid to be with somebody that can take a nap throughout the day to get a break you wouldn't want somebody there that's constantly moving and working and not getting a break they can get frustrated or irritated more easily

I work as a nanny. While baby sleeps I wash bottles, do baby laundry, or a little general cleaning (toys, counters, vacuum rugs) but if there isn't cleaning to do then you bet I'm on my phone or eating. If you would like her to do more be open and talk to her about your expectations. Make sure to assess if what you're paying her is appropriate for what you're expecting her to do. Also, next time this is the kind of thing you should discuss during the interview to avoid such awkward confrontation. ☺ good luck!

What do you want her to do? If your are paying her to watch your child, and she take s a break while child is sleeping by sleeping or playing on her phone- isn't she entitied to a few breaks??

I often have a baby sitter come by after my kids are all asleep so my hubs and I can go out at night. She hangs out and watches movies and eats popcorn. What else would I expect her to do when all 3 kids are sleeping?!

That seems normal to me. When I babysat over the summer I would clean up the messes we made and load the dishwasher but after that I'd watch tv. If you expect a lot of cleaning I'd think you'd need to increase her pay

I was never a nanny, but I babysat a lot. I didn't really nap, but I would watch tv or be on my phone when the kids slept, but first I always made sure to clean up any messes that we made. I didn't like parents coming home to a house with toys or dishes all over the place.... unless it was a disaster when I first got there lol

I've been a nanny for 3 years. The little girl I watch takes a 2 hour nap every day. When I was hired the parents told me that they wanted specific house work done during this time and when it's done I can do whatever I want. Watch TV, nap, eat, be on my phone 🤷🏻‍♀️ 
They pay me extra for the house chores (dishes, laundry, sweeping, general tidying) if you didn't ask her to do these things/pay her more for them (which you should- sorry. It's extra work) then her doing nothing during that time is normal.

When I was a nanny I cleaned, did laundry and dishes and prepared the next meal while the kids napped. If your nanny is attentive while the kids are awake I don't see a problem though.
