pregnancy discrimination??

Does this sound like my work is being unreasonable? I am 20 weeks pregnant and a zookeeper. In the last month I developed sciatic back pain and started PT.  My restrictions were 25 lbs but recently were added in no ladder climbing and no repetitive bending at waste. They told me they can't accommodate me with these new restrictions and made me start my maternity leave already!! I only can take a max of 6 months, most unpaid. This means when I give birth in September I'll have a max of 6 weeks before needing to return. I care for Giraffes and I mentioned how pregnant keepers in past who worked in our great ape area got to just do diet prep during their pregnancy but they said they aren't willing to move people around just to put me where I can do diets...should i lawyer up? I've worked there 11 years with a good record and always have busted my ass...just a side note.

I don't think getting a lawyer will do you any good. I mean I'm not sure if it's really discrimination. Just because if you can't do part of your job(even though you have reason) they're just doing what they need. And just might not be able to put you in another place. And yeah 6 weeks off is crappy when you can get 6 months but just saying for most like me I only get 6 weeks no pay. So Idk maybe you can at least talk to HR or try a free consult with a lawyer and just see what they say about it.

It would be nice if they could do that for you but the technically don't have to. My doctor told me not to take too many notes into work because you were hired to do a certain job and if you can't do it unfortunately that is the only option. Most people only get 6 weeks with their baby anyway before returning to work. I would be careful about getting a lawyer because you don't want to piss them off. If they are going to pay you for 6 months of leave then take it. If you want more time with your baby maybe you can see if you can use some of that time as disability and still get leave while being paid.

It's not discrimination. You simply cannot do the job for which you were hired. They are allowed to say they cannot accommodate your restrictions.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can legally be done since they did not terminate you for it I just got fired a week ago right after I got approved for my FMLA leave and I'm due in a month and I haven't been able to find a lawyer yet who can help me either it is bs but unfortunately laws seem to protect companies more than the employees

Honestly, this could go both ways. You have doctors orders that say you are unable to meet the requirements of your job, but they could theoretically shuffle around to accommodate you.  At the same time, shuffling a bunch of people around to accommodate one person temporarily is a lot of work and maybe the employee makeup isn't the same as when they've previously made the accommodation for others.

Can't a dr put you on short term disability for your back? Then u can file for fmla which will protect your job. Does your healthcare insurance pay something for short term disability?
