induced labor ended in c section

Michelle
I was induced this past Monday due to high blood pressure in pregnancy. After two rounds of cervadil, it seemed like not much was happening. To help speed things along the doctor was going to start a low dose of pitosin Tuesday at 9:00 pm. At 8:50 pm I stood up and my water broke. Pitosin wasn't started to see how I would do on my own. Contractions started and it was 100% all back pain (even going into my thighs). I was only 1 cm dilated. I'm hooked up to the monitor and the nurse comes in and says my baby's heart rate is really fluctuating with contractions and gives me oxygen. She gets it stable and to help me get some sleep, I got pain medicine through my IV. At this point I only feel the pretty big contractions which wake me up for a second but I am pretty much out. The nurse comes back in and puts oxygen on me again and asked me to turn to my other side. I have no idea what time it was, somewhere in the middle of the night. I am on oxygen for the rest
f the night. I had the best nurse and as I am slipping in and out of sleep she is at the monitors charting the entire night and relaying the information to my doctor. A c section pops up in my mind but by morning her heart rate seems to be stabilized. I met with the doctor and she said that she felt I would need a c section (family history as well) and I am still 1 cm dilated. But she wanted to start pitosin on a low dose and up it every half hour to see if the baby tolerated it. After a few hours and some wicked contractions, it was clear that the baby was not tolerating it. Doctor came back in and checked me and I was only 2 cm dilated and we decided c section would be best. The OR was prepped and I walked into surgery less than a half hour later. At 2:43 Ava Lyn was born weighing 7 lbs 2 oz and 20 inches long at exactly 39 weeks on May 3rd. I have never felt a love like I have for my daughter. My husband and I never knew there was something missing until we had her. We came home today and I can't wait to start our lives together at a family of three!
