family camera recommendations?

Does anyone have any good camera recommendations for family use? I'd like to try something better than a point and shoot, but still relatively easy to learn without TOO many parts to carry around. My iPhone doesn't have nearly enough storage for all the pics I'll want to take soon, and I figure i might as well buy a good camera to have than unnecessarily upgrade my phone too soon...
