Hazel is here!

On Friday, I felt perfectly fine, my contractions were gone. I headed to the zoo with my husband and my parents to try to encourage labor to start, and just to see some awesome animals! Within 30 mins of being there, I felt a gush of fluids. I went to the bathroom and was pretty sure that my water had broken. We left the zoo and headed for home. I changed, my husband packed up the hospital bags, and we left. When we got to the hospital, they confirmed my water had broken and admitted me around 1:30. Then they started pitocin as I was only 2cm dilated. I walked the halls, bounced on a ball, and did some stretches as my contractions increased. I did not want an epidural. My doctor showed up and check me around 4 and I was at 3cm. He broke my water the rest of the way. That's when the contractions got a lot stronger. He told me he would see me around 2 am with how labor was going. I labored through the strongest contractions until about 7. They checked me again and I was 4cm. I knew I couldn't keep laboring through the contractions for another 7 hours. I was already getting so tired. So I had an epidural. Within 30 mins, I was ready to push. Hazel was born at 8:42. She weighed 7 pounds, 14oz and was 20 inches long. She was perfect.
About an hour later, our pediatrician came in and told us there was a problem. She had a mass at the base of her spine. They weren't sure if she had a bowel blockage and wouldn't let me feed her any more. We were up most of the night worrying about her and when she would be transferred to the NICU in a different town.
The next morning, they transferred her. My husband left to follow the ambulance. I wasn't discharged, so I just had to stay put. We found out later that day that they wanted to do surgery on Monday to remove the mass. They removed the mass, a teratoma, and her tailbone. My poor baby was hooked up to all kinds of machines. It was terrible.
We stayed in the NICU for 7 days as she recovered and grew stronger. The biopsy results finally came back and were all clear. A week and a day after her birth, we were finally able to take our perfect baby home.
Everyone at the NICU kept asking us if we knew the mass was there. Usually they are caught on ultra sounds. Hers was not. This was not how we wanted to start our parenting journey, but it really put things into perspective. Our little girl is so incredibly perfect, even with her booboo butt and no tailbone. We are so lucky everything went well and now we are home.
