How much freedom do you allow your crawler/toddler?

As I watch my baby getting into the plastic container cabinet  (again) I find myself wondering how other moms handle this? Do you lock everything? Or are you like me and just lock the dangerous stuff like cleaning supplies and allow for exploration of unbreakables like plastic tubs and pots and pans?

Anything dangerous is locked. Anything safe isn't. Yes he pulls the Tupperware and plastic cups out all of the time, but that's also totally normal and part of their process. He likes to match the tops to the Tupperware containers. It keeps him busy while i cook. He also likes to shake the spices. I have 3 boys. They all did it. Doesn't bother me. It's part of their process

I just moved anything dangerous out of reach, and got a baby gate for the stairs. My daughter wasn't too interested in getting into everything

My son has a special drawer in the kitchen plus a shelf that he can play with as he chooses. Sometimes he will only take out 1 thing, sometimes he takes out 50 but it doesn't bother me. I've put designated boxes in each room called busy boxes so he had things to play with instead of getting into trouble. Also, I've tried to avoid having to say no every 10 seconds so I moved deterrents so that he's not tempted to mischief.

I baby proof things after I realize it's a problem. For example all cleaning supplies were instantly baby proofed but my garbage can was ont baby proofed after my son tried to eat out of it. It's important that he know he can go anywhere in my house and explore things. That's how he learns and plays.

I have locks on several cupboards but there are a few that have plastic items that baby loves to explore!

We have the dangerous stuff locked away, and I taught my daughter 'no' so that she doesn't get into cubbords to make messes like that! She's allowed free roam around the house, but not allowed to get into drawers or closets and such.

Lol this scene is familiar... my nephews and my friend's babies did this often. My son isn't old enough yet, but I should start childproofing now! Lol

Im somewhere in the middle. I have all the dangerous stuff locked but i also lock some not so dangerous stuff like the tupperware cabinet simply because we have too many and she makes too big of a mess. She basically had the whole house to play and explore with a few exceptions

Dangerous stuff is locked and I moved all the glass and heavy containers into a baby proofed cabinet and the rest of the drawers and cupboards just have plastic c0ntainers and stuff that's fine for her to get in to which she does get in to multiple times a day lol

For Christ's sake lock all of that Tupperware up in another cabinet and give him one cupboard that's empty for himself to play in. You have enough going on, who wants to pick up crap all day when you don't have to?!
