So only obgyn's prescribe BC? My period is regular and I'm not comfortable with anyone checking me down there.. I'm 17, btw

My family physician prescribed birth control to me when I was 14 because I get ovarian cysts. She then referred me to an OBGYN who I follow up with now. My GYN does not do papsmears on anyone under the age of 21, but does test for STDS, STIs, etc. If you do not feel comfortable talking to a parent, you should be able to make a doctors appointment for yourself to see your family doctor and see if she's able to prescribe you anything. Any registered general practitioner (GP) can prescribe the contraceptive pill.

Many GPs also do Pap smears.

Gynaecologist don't necessarily have to exam you if you say no.

And gynaecologist are the best for knowing what specific birth control pill drug will work best for you and your needs, and which ones have the least side effects, etc. they would know more about how the hormones will effect you and how to manage it. GPs don't have the time to know or explain these things to you, so you might end up going through 5 different pills before you find one your body can tolerate.

I highly recommend talking to a gynaecologist. Explaining to them you don't want a Pap smear you just want to talk about the pill and your periods. If they ask you or pressure you into an exam, you can tell them you aren't comfortable just yet. Unless you have a family history of issues down there they won't be too fussed.
