My mother in law is someone who usually makes me feel good and welcome. Recently, she moved to our area and as such we have been spending more time with her.
I am pregnant with my 2nd baby and she has made several rude comments about my shape/size. My husband is always out of earshot when this occurs. Her comments range from rude to mean to maybe she wasn't thinking. I am NOT a confrontational person so I try to use humor to deflect and make it a non issue. It still hurts though. Her is a sampling of her "greatest hits."
"Wow. You are really big! You are bigger than I was at the end of my pregnancy!"-baby #1...I was 3 months pregnant
"You shouldn't sit on mommy's lap. She doesn't have a lap anymore. She has a shelf"-baby #2 I am 25 weeks along
"Well maybe you have shrunk. You just looked so much bigger the last time I saw you."
I have talked with my husband about her comments and he always compliments me. But as soon as he is out of earshot...
There have been lots of other comments but this post is long enough as it is! Just had to vent.
