Conflicted
I work at a daycare and one of the family's has recently hit hard times were homeless for a few days. They'll be moving to Texas once their baby is born in mid june. They have 3 kids, 8, 6, and 1year old (his birthday was yesterday). The oldest is bipolar. The 2nd is nearly deaf in one ear, and the baby is too heavy to walk (28lbs!!) And could possibly have muscular dystrophy. They set up a gofundme and I want to help more then anything.
But.. I'm conflicted.. mom is still smoking. I don't know how much, I'm still just a teacher. But it's my own personal opinion that mom shouldn't smoke during pregnancy and that I don't know where any donated money is going to.
They have NOTHING for this baby. She just last week had her 1st appointment. She has an ultrasound in the next few weeks and will find out the gender. I still want to help..
I gave her one of my 20% off coupons for target to get a carseat.. but it expires on May 30th. The cheapest they'll get maybe is $60 and I don't know if they could get that much with dad's job by then. I was thinking of giving them a $30 gift card to help cover half of it.. is that wise? Target doesn't sell cigarettes in the US. I also offered that if it's a girl I could give them some of my daughters old things I don't want anymore.
I just really want to help despite my own opinions. What should I do?
