Work trying to terminate me/maternity leave

Marissa • I'm just as lost as anybody else • Taking my life day by day

So I work for a very large company and was given 20 weeks of paid maternity leave (4 weeks prepartum, 16 weeks postpartum). Well my baby is 6 weeks as of Sunday so I am 10 weeks into my leave. Sunday night I get an email from work titled "Leave Exhaustion Notice" and it goes on to say that my leave of absence has been ended and if I do not return to work on Tuesday (today) I will be terminated. I am freeaaking out at this point. In my head I thought I still had 10 more weeks with my baby and even then I would be going back part time to ease back in. But this was about to screw everything up. They wanted me to jump back into 40 hour weeks while still recovering from my c-section, AND find child care with less than 2 days notice. I just held my baby and cried and apologized because I was going to have to choose between losing my job or giving him to a stranger to look after him.

Well I'm up all night stressing because the office isn't open for me to call and when they finally open at 6 AM they tell me they'll have to call me back in a few hours. Okay. I wait until 1 PM and no call so I call them back and am told "Oh, yeah. That email was a mistake. You've still got 10 weeks left."

Guys. I was furious. I had cried, I had lost sleep, I had called my mom at 1 AM stressing out because I thought I had been ripped off and lied to. A mistake like that is no joke when it's concerning my child's care and my income to support my child. Needless to say they got an ear full. Honestly sick of this company and wishing I could stay home with my baby..
