how can I tell my boyfriend this without hurting him?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 months. He wants to meet my extended family, he's met my parents already but I'm not ready for him to meet everyone. Partly, because I don't want him to meet my family and then for us to break up. I want to be sure of him then introduce him to my family. However, he's not really understanding about it and tries to push it. It's my sister's birthday and he keeps insisting I bring him to my family gathering. I tried telling him that it's up to my sister since it's her birthday, but in all honesty I'm just not ready to take that step in the relationship. On the other hand, he wants to introduce me to everyone which makes me feel bad about keeping the relationship more to myself.. (my previous one was a mess) we've been together for a short amount of time.. and wanted to see if we can make it past the one year mark before introducing him to more people.
How can I talk to him about this without hurting him? How can I get him to understand? He'll usually just stop talking or get really upset at me when I try to talk to him about it.

I'm sorry I understand the anxiety but i think you're causing more issues than needed. You've been together long enough and it sounds like he's more in it than you are. Even if you were to break up after meeting family so what those things happen. If you're serious about him, it's a small risk to take

Hello Dear, there can be two reasons for this, one could be he is really very possessive about you and your relationship     or he probably would want to mingle with your family 'cos not sure whether he has not got such a big family. Try to explain him such a way he understands giving value/respect to your opinion or intention about him meeting your family.

I wouldn't let him. Tell him you care about him but you just aren't ready. Him pushing you towards this is a slippery slope towards him pushing you into all sorts of things. Just let him down easy and tell him you are very happy to be with him and you love him but you just aren't ready for that. Placate him with a very nice fun date.

It was the other way around for me and my bf. He met my family very early on. And I kept wanting to meet his and he putting it off. I kept thinking he was ashamed or embarrassed by me that he didn't want me to meet them. Then on our one year I met his parents and family.
