Is the 1st year of marriage always the hardest?

Basically i got married in August last year & ever since our relationship of 6 years has just nose dived. We have almost split up numerous times over stupid shit & people keep telling us to stick at it because the first year is the hardest

I was always told that the first 5 years of moving in together are the hardest. (Usually followed after marriage) Of course there will be ups and downs, the good comes with the bad, always. 
We lived together for almost 2 years and it was suchhhh a whirlwind, we had so much fun but fought sooo much to the point where I thought it was over. This third year (about to be our 4th) is our first year married and man it is so much fun. We have fought pretty nasty but not anywhere near as bad as the first 2 years. There's a lot more compromise, a lot of respect and communication and it makes it all the better. 
Marriage and living together is a never ending learning process. Marriage doesn't guarantee happiness. It's a binding agreement between two people who vow to keep their promises to each other through hell and back. I've always believed you'll get what you work for and it's proven true to anything else in my life.

Thanks everyone :). We have had a rocky relationship from the start but after I had my son with a previous partner we came back to each other & wanted to be a family. We met when I was just out a relationship & went off the rails so I believe I met him at the completely wrong time. We have an amazing relationship & have been through so much. We have been together solid for 4 years. We have lived together before this but not for long. Tbh I think a lot of our problems is because we don't want to burden each other so we don't mention small things which then leads to a big arguement. But we both want to work things out rather than just walk away x

My mom said that the first year was easy, it was the stuff that came later that was harder. When they first got married, they were working good jobs and making money. After I was born, my mom stayed home and they started fighting more

I have been married for almost 8 months and I'm having a great time. We have been together almost 7 years and lived together for 3 years. People keep telling me the first year is the hardest but I don't see it. The only thing that's different between us now is my last name and we are short $3000. 😂 We have actually fought less since we have been married. Maybe because we lived together for so long. I hope everything works out for you guys. Marriage is a beautiful thing.

I think people get freaked out because they always think marriage will change things and I don't think it does. Pick your battles! Good luck!
