Nursing to sleep?

When did your baby stop nursing to sleep and fall asleep independently?

Here's my scenario: babe is 18 months old and nursed to sleep for naps (when I'm home and not working) and always nursed to sleep at nights. She sleeps at minimum 6 hours straight, eats and then back to sleep. Naps are so/so- some days we can only get 20 minutes and other days 2.5 hours. I would love to have her fall asleep independently but I don't know that I'm ready to sleep train. Also don't know that I'm ready to give up nursing to sleep. Tell me your stories!

My daughter stopped on her own around three. She unlatched, got comfortable, and then sang a song and fell asleep. It came out of no where.

My daughter stopped nursing to sleep when i weaned her completely. I tried everything i could think of, even started supplementing with formula at night but nothing worked. She would get full on formula but still insited on nursing to sleep simply as a comfort thing. I weaned her off the boob and did the cry it out meathod around 7 months and she has been sleeping on average 11-12 hours a night with the occasional sleep regression here and there. She went from sleeping almost 12 hours a night to only sleeping 8 hours a night for a few weeks but is now back to her regular pattern.
