Can my milk just stop ??

Yesterday I tried breastfeeding my baby and he would try to drink and then start crying so bad he kept on for like 5 minutes so I tried the other side.usually when I switch sides , the one he just finished drinking from starts leaking like crazy but nothing it was dry. So he tried the other one and same thing. So I made him a bottle and he ate that. I use a nipple shield so it isn't nipple confusion. And usually I breastfeed until he empties them then I go e him a 2 oz bottle since he wasn't gaining weight bfing alone. Today everytime I try same thing nothing is coming out. Could it have run out ??
