Should parents be required to pay child support if the child is in college?

I know the laws differ depending on the state, but as far as I know legal responsibility for parents ends once the child is considered an adult, so why is it different if there is a support order?

It's usually when child graduates high school or turns 18. Whichever is first. My oldest will be 18 in January. Graduates June. Therefore support ends last day of school. My other child had a November birthday. We started her the following year. So she will be 18 the November of her senior year. Support will continue until June.

Parents aren't required to pay for your university education or ensure you get one. They don't have to give any monetary support (or other form of support) either. So no I don't think child support should continue into university/college. If parents had to pay for their kids to go to higher education then yes but they don't.

In Alabama it's 19 instead of 18, but they can stop paying right then.

The situation is completely different in my country. If the child goes to university, the parents have to support the child by the law,  but there aren't a lot of children who sue their parents if they choose not to. The parents are required  to support the child by some kind of degrees until the child is 24 years old. The parents are not required to pay for the uni tuition though, but a lot of students don't need that since education is rather inexpensive here and in a lot of cases, is paid by the government. If a child/ young adult has no parents or only one parent, then the government will support that child instead. The monitary support is not big and it's not enough to live of, but any kind of money helps. On the other end, the child is required by the law to take care of their parents once they get old.
