cold sores & kissing baby?

I have a 8 week old and I completely forgot that I get cold sores every once or twice a year and I kissed her on the lips cause she's just so cute! My SO immediately told me "babe no kisses, you get cold sores remember" and my heart dropped and I felt like the worst mother ever. Will she get cold sores now? :( I feel really depressed

Your baby won't get a cold sore! If you had an outbreak during pregnancy your baby actually will have antibodies that will protect them for the first 6 months. Also you can only pass the virus during an active outbreak. I always kiss my daughter on her lips and get cold sores. Just make sure that when you get an outbreak that you wash your hands thoroughly and no kisses during that time.

A friend had this issue, they were just really careful to avoid contact, sharing drinks etc while they had an active sore, so I think you should be alright (as far as I know it's only contagious when active) now years later they're still doing fine

Just look up the times when it's possible to spread the virus. Definitely don't do it when you have a cold sore, but I think it might be contagious the several days before one appears, too. I can't remember. I get them every in winter if I don't stay hydrated. I don't kiss my son on the lips, but I avoid kissing him entirely if I feel one coming. Just be forewarned, if you look up information the pictures will terrify you. I looked up information once and was afraid to kids my baby at all for a week even without having a cold sore.

I get them as well. The only time it can pass you her is when you have one or one is coming on. I have 7 kids and none of them have them. Neither does my husband.

I'm think it can only spread to her if you one at that time I get them when also when I'm super sick but I just avoid contact while i have it and right at the first sign of them start treatment with carmax type stuff to put on it and wash your hands really well after you apply or any you even think you might have touch it. just be very cautious of it. But if you didn't have it at the time I wouldn't worry too bad just talk to your Dr or LO's Dr about it
