Babysitter pay???? What to pay?!

Sadly, my 8 months of free care for my daughter is ending. My mother in law is too sick to care for my daughter, and tomorrow my neighbors daughter (recent high school graduate) will be watching my daughter approximately 3 days a week. I had talked to co workers and they told me how much they pay their sitter. Just wanna hear more numbers, so I can kinda gauge where I want to pay her. I live in a rural area in Pennsylvania, and I know cost of living is way down here compared to let's say.. San Francisco. I googled babysitter pay and 16$ an hour came up, and that was babysitting in SF. What do you pay?

If it's someone who doesn't have much experience and in a more rural area, I think $8-$10/hr is reasonable..

Pay minimum wage per hour or forget it. You are asking someone to care for your infant for what sounds at least like a full eight hour work day. $30 is far from fair for a full eight hours of constant care/supervision. Be ethical.

San fransisco is one of the most expensive places to live in the world! I would not go by their rates if you're in rural PA. I would go with a daily rate VS an hourly rate. A full time daily rate could be anywhere from $30-40. Talk to her and see where she's at in terms of amounts. Good luck :)!!

You legally have to pay minimum wage at least. I was an experienced nanny and charged between 15-25 an hour back when I nannied. But when I started out I made about 7-10 an hour.

I made 12 an hour while working as a nanny for two children. However, I cooked, cleaned, grocery shopped, did homework with the older one, and took them to all after school activities...I was underpaid, not terribly low. For someone watching your single child, assuming they aren't doing tons of cleaning and cooking (cleaning messes they make with baby while working is fine, and prepping meals for baby obviously...) I would say 8-10/ hour. You could always try and negotiate a daily rate of 55-65 a day.

We pay our sitter $15/hr for one baby. We live in San Diego. $15/hr seems reasonable to me for quality help! Granted our sitter comes only 4 hours per week. Any more and that would start to get uber expensive...
