HELP PLEASE!

I need some advice, but a bit of background first. My MIL always claims to be British (Her parents moved to Canada before she was born and she has never been to visit). Since I've had a LO she refers to herself as Mum and says that is what they call a grandma in England, this doesn't seem right to me. Enough with the background, my question is Mum a term used by grandmas in England?
