My baby is 5 months and We still didn't start baby food. Is it safe to start baby food now? And what's the first thing to give them?

We are not starting solids until 6 months.  We did a lot of research into the benefits of waiting.  We are going on vacation right after she turns 6 months so we will start her around 6.5 months.

We started at 4 months with green beans. Skipped the cereals because the doctor said it was ok. He loves the baby food.  We have since tried green peas and carrots. Tomorrow we will introduce zucchini. I steam the veggies and then puree with water or breast milk. We wanted to do a variety of veggies before fruits. We will do sweet potato and avocado, then we will introduce fruits. Baby still nurses regularly. Eats 2 oz of baby food twice a day. Will be 5 months on the 30th.

Our Dr told us to start food at 4 months, I waited til 5 cuz seemed better for her. But we skipped the baby food, I still haven't tried the cereal.. She knows how to chew properly now at 6 months so will be giving her more stuff. Started with banana, mum mums, avocado. Then got into little pieces of our food(if it was ok for her to have) she lives for turkey and chicken  lol.

We are waiting until he is ready to start with actual table food. We decided to skip all cereals and purees. So he must be 6 months, have head control, and can sit independently. He just turned 5 months on the 21st so we have a little while yet.

My doctor started my little girl at 4 months on baby food. Depends on your doctor I guess.

Ask your doctor to make sure your baby is ready. My doctor said that my baby was ready at 4 months. He was 4 1/2 months when we actually started. Pediatrician said we can start with cereal but no wheat cereal. He recommended oatmeal or rice, but I read the ingredients in oatmeal and it had wheat in it. 😳

We started after Doc's approval at 4 month check-up. Mainly steaming/pureeing the following: squash, sweet potatoes, peas, peaches, apples, bananas. We also give him avocado, but that isn't a fave yet.

Usually this is a safe time, did your pediatrician clear it at 4 month checkup? Most important thing is to listen to your baby's cues. A baby that isnt ready for solids will choke on it and sputter a lot. Its normal for some spit up especially while they are getting used to the taste and texture but make sure its not projectile spit up. 
We decided to skip cereals since i dont believe that it has enough nutritional value and the stage 1 fruits and veggies have the right consistency. I just dont see the point of cereals and our pediatrician agreed. 
We just started my son on solids last weekend, he has had carrots which he loved and green beans which he isnt a fan of.

I started giving my son food around 4.5 months. Usually you start with a baby cereal like rice or oat, but some people start right off with veggies or fruit. I started with rice cereal.
