There was a minor miracle today at the funeral of one of the faithful. He was taken without precedence or anticipation in his youth, the youngest child of this family on the cusp of the rest of his life, while traveling abroad.
They were sealing the coffin with pegs (we don't use nails or metals in our tradition, it is made entirely of wood) and when the last peg was slammed into place, the icon of the Harrowing of Hell, which depicts Christ descending into Hell to save the souls of the righteous who have perished since the Beginning, came about a foot off the wall (technically the iconostasis, a wall that separates the altar from the rest of the church)l that often had a series of icons depicting the events of the life of Christ), paused, and fell to the floor. A visiting priest retrieved the icon and laid it atop the coffin to be buried with the body within, claiming "it belongs to him".
There were many of the unfaithful in our church today to mourn the loss of their friend. They were witness to this. I pray it softens their hearts to the Lord.
