I heard there is a 1 month rule for ever year. So if you were together for 3 years, you get over it/grieve/whatever for 3 months. Then you can start moving on. You don't want to be depressed/upset about it forever so you give yourself sometime. If it takes longer than that so what? Every person is different, just don't get hung up on the past.
