Is it bad to skip a period? I start my "period week" tomorrow and am going to the lake and didn't want to have to deal with my period. Is it healthy? Are their any side effects?

My doctor actually encouraged me to 'skip'. I'm on birth control for the first time in a few years, she gave me three packs and told me to not take the last row of pills. Skipping these thins out your uterine lining making for a lighter period in the long run!

However- if you still get your period when you skip the last row of  pills (because I did) it can last for a really long time. I had my period for 2.5 months during the first 3 months of going on the pill and working to skip my period. My dr told me it was completely normal. She ended up increasing the dosage, but she said anything for that first 3 months goes. Your body needs a few cycles to get used to skipping. But now I haven't had my period *intentionally* for 3 months and I feel great!
