Virginity Myth? Do you bleed?

I'm 15 as my SO and I are ready to have sex. Most people my age have done it but I'm afraid that when he does I will start to bleed. Is that a myth or will that happen? I'm worried and don't want to be embarrassed if it happens.

It really depends on you, your body, and your lifestyle. People with vulvas are born with a hymen, a membrane that partially covers the vaginal opening. The hymen can stretch or tear during plenty of activities: sex, masturbation, riding horses or bicycles, exercise, using internal hygiene products like cups or tampons, etc. Hymens never go away. They merely stretch out of the way.

Bleeding during the first time having sex happens because someone is inserting something too large into the vagina too quickly for the hymen to stretch and get out of the way on its own. In order to accommodate what is being inserted (a penis, toy, or fingers), the hymen tears. This causes bleeding and pain. Eventually, the hymen heals back up, but there will be soreness for a couple hours to a couple days.

To avoid bleeding and pain, take it slow. Enjoy lots of foreplay and external stimulation, then work your way up to a penis by using well-lubricated fingers. Listen to your body-- if you feel pain, slow down or stop, focus on other parts of your body, then work your way back up to whatever you were doing. Have a great first time!

It's completely normal to bleed you shouldn't be embarrassed. I bled on my first time and it was no big deal. If you're with the right guy it shouldn't be a big deal at all. 2nd guy I was with was had a bigger dick width wise and I bled again. Still wasn't a big deal
