Does the pill cause blood clots?

I went to the ER and the nurse was asking me if I was taking birth control pills because they were worried about the pill causing blood clots in women's lungs. Is this a thing? I'm not on BC but I plan to be and now I'm scared.

I've known several who have had them not to scare you but one even died they didn't catch it and went to her brain and ruptured

It increases your chance but only 1 in 1000 women/year get them on the pill. That's 0.1%. Increased risk doesn't mean high risk! Look at the numbers on it and decide for yourself

It can. more likely if you have a history of blood clots or a family history of them. It's more likely with methods that have estrogen so the combo pill, ring and patch. It's rare but can happen

also your risk for blood clots increase if you smoke AND if you smoke while on birth control it increases too

Yes, it can. My cousins mother ended up with one after being on birth control for 10 years. I think it's more of a concern with long term use though.
