Food stamps?

I live with my parents and younger sister, in NY. To apply for food stamps online, I have to include everyone who lives in my house and how much they make. But I don't want food stamps for my entire family, just myself and my baby when he/she is born. I'm not working at the moment, the only thing I can afford is fast food or to find something here. There is of course food here, but nothing that's too nutritional. Just lots of pasta, soup, cereal, etc. I want to be able to eat nutritional food so that I'm healthy for my baby. When I enter my parents income on the website, I'm not eligible for food stamps. But I hate that it's going by my parents information. Can I just say that I live on my own? Or is that considered fraud?

It is considered fraud. Unfortunately, they do look at everyone in the home's income. Try seeing if you can say that you're renting a room in their home and have your own expenses.

You have to say that you buy and prepare your food separately and also you have to be older than 21/22. If you're younger than that and still living with your parents it is still considered the same household in which they'll count their income. I work for social services in my county which is in NYS.

I Googled and in California they do ask you who you live with but the key is who prepares meals together. That might make you eligible still. WIC might work for you as a supplement, but the food they give you is really sh*tty and you'd be healthier without it. Unless you don't mind of course ☺

I live in Illinois, but to my knowledge it was always based on your income...maybe it depends on your age if your under 18?...I had my daughter when I was 18 and I remember when I filled out the paper work it asked something like how many ppl are you feeding or how many ppl will be eating with you so I only put myself and my daughter. That was over 5 years ago though so I'm not sure, but I'd suggest maybe only putting your info. Try WIC as well.

Yes you need to tell the truth but there should be someplace on the application to explain your circumstance. I needed food stamps while living with my parents but I needed certain food for my medical diet and I was approved bc I wasn't making mych even though I was over 21 and living with them.

If you're over a certain age and prepare your own meals, they count you as your own household. Even if you live with roommates/parents. I did it back when I was 22 going through divorce and moved back in with my parents, who a few months later also went through a divorce.

You didn't answer the questions appropriately. You are head of your separate household living with your parents. You prepare and take care of you and your child separately. They will require you to do job searching and training in a specific amount of time. Ask for an interview with your specialist.

Back when I lived with roommates we all got food stamps because we ate separate meals I'd call down and talk to them maybe that would help but I know things have changed a lot over the years with government assistance

Idk if there's WIC programs where you live, but I was on that when I had my daughter and lived with my parents. It helped a little, try looking for something like that
