Will a hospital mask help me?

Okay, point blank I have shit lungs.

I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and I'm an asthmatic. No I don't smoke. I don't have a death wish. BUT

Last weekend, I'm pretty sure I set myself up for a respiratory infection.

Long story short we were painting. The people helping us were smoking cigarettes. I'm pretty sure the second hand smoke and the paint fumes gave me the respiratory infection.

I'm not getting better yet, I lost my voice. I feel like hell. It's only day 2 for the antibiotics.

But I have to go back this weekend. I have to, like I really don't have a choice.

So I'm considering buying like hospital mask to get through it and not breathe any more crap into my lungs. Would that be pointless?

People don't understand that i cannot be around cigarettes. Being around someone who is smoking could land me in a hospital Or possibly send me into anaphylactic shock. It's not okay, your addiction/urge to smoke is not more important than my ability to breathe and stay healthy. I hate people sometimes.

Edit: no, I wasn't premature. I was born at 41 weeks. my asthma is genetic.
