Do you think it's selfish to have a child, if your finances aren't that great?

Hubby and I have been talking about baby #2 but I'm apprehensive. I have a part time job, and he works a full time job. We always get our bills paid but seems like we can never catch up. We try to save money but something always comes up. For example, our car needed some work done to it. Sometimes I feel we will never truly be ahead. I'm just curious if you think it's selfish to have another child when you don't necessarily have a ton of money coming in.🙇🏼‍♀️

if you can manage it financially, sure, but if you already have financial anxiety it will only get worse with another baby. my husband wanted to start TTC when we got married but I was only a temp at the time and was so nervous I wouldn't be brought on permanently. it would have been way too much stress for me, now I'm a permanent employee and we are happily TTC!

Not really selfish but I feel like you're setting yourself up for a lot of extra stress. I just had my first baby and I'm almost 30. I'm glad that even though taking care of a baby is hard work, at least I really don't have to worry about money at this point.

I dont think it'll be good for your marriage if you feel like you're living paycheck to paycheck... I don't think you need to be wealthy by any means to have a child, you just need to be living within your means. Maybe look into where you can cut expenses (think tv, entertainment, clothing, eating out), put yourself on a cash budget, start shopping second hand especially for kids clothes or get hand me downs... see if you can cut transportation costs (we have one car and my partner buses to work), etc.
