Miscarrying at 5w5d

I'm almost certain I am miscarrying. I started spotting this morning and called my doctor. She said to go to the ER if it gets heavy like a period. Well I'm not to that point yet but every time I go to the bathroom I wipe red blood. The past few times have had small clots with it. My hospital is over an hour away, am I wrong for not going? Financially money is tight and my husband and I just had our 15 month old daughter in the ER Friday night. I know what's happening and I'm accepting it. I'm calling first thing in the morning to make An appt for early this week as my doctor instructed me to. What are some other symptoms to look out for?
