Opinions on cot bumpers?

Just wanting to know what you other mums think about cot bumpers, 
Yes or no and why? 
Wanting to get some for my little mans cot but don't know much about the safety and if they are, what's the best brand to buy and where can I get them :)

Bumpers are not recommended by the APA as they are a suffocation hazard. My son sticks his legs through the crib slats and has quickly figured out how to pull his legs back out. After reading that story about that mom in the US who's 7 month old was suffocated/strangled by a blanket, I have removed anything that could cause my son harm (he had a lovey he slept with for a couple months). His crib is completely empty except for the sheet that covers the mattress. 
Use your own discretion, but they are a hazard.
