Court

So I took our kids and left my husband recently. And I also filed a warrant for his arrest because he hurt our son badly. He was picked up for misdemeanor child abuse but a domestic thing was filed so I couldn't get a restraining order. I have court in the morning and was wondering if anyone that has been through this could tell me what to expect next? The only thing I got from the detective on my case was that I'd have to take the stand and say why I wanted protection. And it will be granted or denied.
