What's the best age gap between having children in your opinion?

For the children, I've read studies back in one of my child development classes that 3 years is ideal for children and their relationships with their siblings.

Between my sister and I there are 7 years. Between my brother and I are 10 years. Almost 17 years between the two of them. I'm not sure about how close I'd want my kids but I know for sure I don't want them as spaced out as that lol.

My dad n his brother are 3 years part, my mom n her sister are 3 years apart, me n my brother are 3 years apart, my bf and his brother are 3 years apart and my kids are 2.5 years apart! I love it!! My son was just old enough to understand he was getting a little sister and was very excited! they have been best friends since day one🤗 he is 3.5 and she is 13 months

I'm the middle daughter of 3 girls. All born almost exactly 3 years apart:
Dec. 31, Dec. 18, and Oct. 16

I've read that have a less than 4 year age gap increases the likelihood of mental illness but I'm not sure how well designed the studies that present this co cousin were (it was a long time ago). Ultimately I think it matters more his well your parents are coping with parenting than how close you and your siblings are in age. For some families a larger age gap will make it easier for parents to give little ones the attention they require. In others parents might struggle to space out children because of career pressures or the pressures of ageing parents. We decided to let nature take its course and had our second child as soon as possible so that our parents would still be younut enough to help us and I would be able to focus more on building my career sooner.

You can't always plan out the age gap. I don't think the age gap even matters.   For some they are not ready to start trying when the first child gets 2 or 3, I know I wasn't ready at that time. I had my daughter at 18, had just graduated high school, only been with my boyfriend for 1 year ect. I wanted to be more stable in our relationship and financially before we brought another child into the world. We started trying when our daughter went into kindergarten she was 5, we thought I would get pregnant fast since our daughter was a surprise blessing. But here we are 3 years later still ttc. So unfortunately you can plan all you want to but so many other factors come into play and fate will decide when for you.

I would like my youngest child to be out of diapers before I get pregnant with a second. In my family the age gap is four years between my younger sister six years between me and my older sister my twin and me are 2 minutes apart but I don't think that counts

I think it's different for everyone. My daughter is 7 months and I'm TTC our second. I would like them to be closer in age. I'm not sure if we'd try for a third, but I wouldn't want my first and second to be any more than two or three years apart.
