Maternity leave or SAHM?

Question

Did you stay at home after the baby or go on maternity leave and return to work? I had plans to return to work only for financial reasons and things have gotten so bad politically at work (not just me - HALF my dept is leaving!) that I've changed those plans and am putting in my 2 weeks. I'm excited to not have to rush back after like I would after maternity leave but a little nervous. Curious about other women's experiences

My original plan was to return to work after giving birth to my first child but after I gave birth we found out she had Down Syndrome. So I ended up staying home. 6 yrs later still a SAHM added 2 more kiddos and one on the way. Im currently going to school to get my realtor's license and be able to do that on the weekends.

I a SaHM but my husband works 7 days a week. With one weekend off a month. When I was about 6 months I quit my job. I'm in college the hope is when baby starts school I will be done with my masters. Than  go back to work.

I'm a SAHM and I love it. We make ends meet at the moment while still having some wriggle room money so I don't see why I would go back to work when I can spend my days looking after our daughter and our home. My income would also only really cover the cost of daycare anyway so I don't see the point. I'd rather be the one looking after my kid all day than going to work to earn just enough money to pay someone to do what I would do better.

I went on maternity leave but only went back part time because I mostly wanted to stay home with the baby but we did still need the little bit of extra money at the time

I took my maternity leave and then quit in the middle of it because my husband got a better job :) felt great to quit because we had a lot of drama going on in the office when I left for my leave as well

I'm a SAHM and plan to continue as is. I do miss work, mostly the social aspect (but also the extra paycheck was nice). I may go back part time eventually, but probably not until LO is in school. You won't regret quitting to stay home, but after awhile if you find you miss working, you can always go find a job any time. Not having to rush back is nice :)

I got a year mat leave and I still haven't returned yet. Dd is 2 years and 4 months. I have a good career and they have told me to take all the time I need. I'm not sure when or if I'll return home. It's the best thing I can do for my daughter I think.

I really had no choice financially, but I am a special needs teacher and love my students, so I didn't mind. Honestly after 11 weeks of feeling confined tons rocking chair to hold the baby to feed her or rock her to sleep, or hold her instead of lay her down just so she would stay asleep...it was sort of nice. I do really wish that I could afford to only work like a half day job, so I could spend more time with her, but she has been staying with my grandmother, so I don't worry about her. Plus teachers do have time off for holidays, spring break, and summer, so I've had a good amount of time with her. She is a year old now and will be starting preschool for half a day when school starts back!

I've been a stay at home mum since being pregnant with my son 5 years ago. Love it! I went back to work for nearly a year when my son was 3, worst thing ever. His behaviour was out of control, I barely saw him, and. Cause my hubby works away it was even harder because my hubby wasn't even the one looking after him it was constant babysitting! Not worth it. Wouldn't do again. Pregnant again now and plan to be home until they are in first year of compulsory schooling
