Ok to give baby 1 oz of water

So my baby has been crying for about an hour straight almost. I tried everything changed him, held him, gave his pacifier , nothing he just kept crying. Then my husband asked to give the baby water. I told him baby's can't drink straight water until 6months, he said a little bit won't hurt so I gave baby 1 oz and he was calm.

Is it ok that I gave my baby water?

He drink formula and I KNOW that it has water in it.
