Do you ever get over your "first love"

So basically,I've been single for over a year and even without contact or communication I'm finding it difficult to get over my past partner. This is making it very difficult to move forward with someone else due to always looking back and thinking about the past. 
This poll is just to find out if you actually do get over your first love or if you don't but you have to move on anyway.

Yep. The good/bad memories remain, but you do get over it and eventually want nothing but the best for them

Once you fall in love again like really in love as in this is the person you'll be with forever, you will get over your ex. Took me years and I was basically a child when I met my "first love". It takes time.

I was with my first love for 5 years. He was my everything and then one day we split up and my world fell apart. I cried and I thought I was never going to move on but as I saw that he was moving on with his life I tried very hard to do the same. I ended up with a guy I have known for a while and I had a kid with him. We were together for about 4 years and I couldn't take it anymore so I left him. After being single for a couple months my first love called me and wanted to see how I was doing, we met up... now we are married, we have been married now for  3 years. He takes care of my daughter as his own and I take care of is son as if he were my own. I am not only married to the love of my life but also my best friend. Don't stress yourself , be strong... if at the end of the day it was really meant to be then it will find its way back.

I did, but I realized that I needed to get out because he kept scaring me with something that he knew I broke down when he did it. Plus he was one of those guys who molded into anything you wanted. He ate ramen and chicken all the time and it just wasn't meant to be.
