Xanax and breastfeeding??

Please no judgement just trying to find out info. Due to a recent surgery I have to take Xanax at night to relax my throat and to help lessen spasms. I asked the dr if it was safe to take it and then pump and give to her and the PDR only says it's a low dose and it should be okay but I'm so nervous. Does anyone else out there take Xanax and breastfeed? Any issues. I've been pumping and dumping after I take it but in the morning is when i get the most milk I hate dumping it???   I'm really struggling now to get 4 oz in a pump. so to dump 10 in the am stinks.

If you don't want to feed baby that milk, instead of dumping it you can freeze it and use for milk baths!

You can check toxnet. Dr Hale is the expert in all things medications affecting breastfed babies. He has set up a contact center to ask about medications at 806-352-2519. They are open Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, CT.
From what I read on his site, short term in low dose is fine. Baby may be a bit sleepy. And 2 hours after taking the medication is when it peaks in your milk so try to nurse baby and than take it.

I've taken it before, but not while breastfeeding. You're probably ok as long as you're following what your doctor is telling you.
