Parents shouldn't buy character backpacks?

I'm curious as to what are your thoughts on this, especially if you have a kid that's in school. I have a aunt that lives in Houston Texas and she said that it's on the news that parents shouldn't buy their kids expensive backpacks with the characters on it such as super heroes, frozen..etc because it could make the children that live in poverty jealous. They may not be able to afford those things and may have a plain and cheap backpack. My thing is, although I understand where they are coming from, and I feel terrible for those children who's families can't provide those things for them, but I don't think that it's fair of them to ask other parents who work hard so their kids can have those nice things. Other kids shouldn't be deprived of what they want because of other family situations. If my daughter wants a character backpack then I will buy her one. I'll maybe even donate one to a child that needs one. I live in VA and it's not on our news here. How do you all feel about it? Do you agree with the news or not?
