Should I ask for something more private for convocation ceremony?

Okay, here's the deal. I'm showing up at college on the 22nd, and have convocation on the 24th. Call me naive, but I just found out that was a thing and for some reason it scares me. None of the other stuff does, but the idea of being formally 'presented' has my inner introvert cringing. My question is whether or not I should ask for something more private. Part of me doesn't want all those eyes on me, especially since I'll probably be the plain/poor kid, but the other part wants me to get over myself and put my big girl pants. What do you think? Would it even be considered?

I remember when I transferred schools, I got invited to go to my new university's convocation. They made it seem like it was necessary for all new students, but honestly I don't think anyone would have noticed if I wasn't there. They don't say anyone's names. We just sat in a big auditorium and the chancellor spoke for a while, and some other people spoke and welcomed us to the school. At the end, we got pins. That was it. Pretty boring, and I don't think it's a huge deal if you dont go.

At my convocation we all listened to the president of my school give a speech and welcome us. We didn't do anything other than sit and listen, no getting up in front of anyone so I think you'll be okay!

I'm not sure what the size of your school is but mine were pretty large and we pretty much just learned the fight song and then listened to the president tell some jokes and left. No one has a requirement for you or reads your name.

My school is pretty medium sized and at our convocation we just learned a couple school cheers and they handed out tshirts and we took a huge group photo. It was pretty boring but it was a requirement. Nothing embarrassing at all though!

Convocation is graduation from university- so unless you've completed your degree then you don't have to worry about it. Also you do have to apply to convocate. So you can graduate and get a diploma without actually going to the ceremony. But it sounds like you're a new student so you won't be convocating just yet.
