Are condoms still really safe ?

I'm quitting the pill but I still hookup with my x cuz we're still in love with each other and could be together if we could be but we can't right now. We're planning on using condoms and he'll cum in them obviously. I just haven't used condoms in so long I like forgot everything about them😂😂 well still be okay if he uses condoms right ?
