Bloody spotting/period? On 2nd week of bc

Hi

I am a 36 yr old female who just started back on Birth Control after 4 years. I had a kid 3.5 years ago and honestly was not too sexually active w my then husband. We are divorced now and I am dating so I went on the pill. Just today I noticed some bloody spotting. My last period was 18 days ago and I had protected sex on Aug 5th (condom). Never had this happen to me before. Not even when I got pregnant. Could it be a side effect of my new BC?
