Ear piercing

My SO and I were discussing piercing the ears of our little one. We're off vastly different opinions - I'd prefer to do it early, he said to wait until she's 16! We are from different cultures too so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. It isn't major but it also was not something I'd ever given any consideration before. I think we're likely to wait until she's a both older but out of interest, I wondered what other parents did. And how old were you/your children when you had your ears pierced?
