Soften cervix and induction

How long does it takes for sex to induce labor? Me and my husband had sex yesterday evening and that night I had 11 contractions in about an hour but then they stopped. And also my midwife says my cervix is still hard, how can I soften it besides sex because I'm big pregnant and tired.
