Cervix checks?

Hi everyone. I'm 39 weeks today (woohoo!) but my OB won't check my cervix until I'm 40 weeks. With being due over a holiday weekend, I'll actually be 40+3 when they actually will check and they said they'll be inducing me at 41 weeks if I don't go naturally. Does anyone else struggle with this? I would like more than 4 days to prepare for induction if it comes to it, but they REFUSE to check my cervix before 40 weeks. I just feel like if I knew if I was dilating or not, we could get a general idea of what to expect before then.
