Will meds make me fat?

I'm already fat—5'6 and 136 lb—and I've heard antidepressants make people gain weight. I'm going to a psychiatrist after my therapist has decided my depression and anxiety isn't going to get better without meds. I'm 13, if that affects my symptoms.

You're not fat. Your height and weight are in a good proportion. Some meds can cause weight gain but not all. Voice your concerns with your doctor and tell them you'd prefer one that does not cause weight gain.

Girl I am five one and the smallest I've been in years is 123 pounds I'm at 152 now so you definitely aren't fat and who ever told you that is insane because even though I gained some weight husband still finds me attractive and he's the only one that I'm worried about lol but no the medicine shouldn't make you gain weight when I was on them it actually made me lose weight because it suppressed my appetite

They tend to either make you gain weight or lose weight. That's just a very common side effect of any psychiatric mediation. I have taken many mediations over the years for my mental health and have had mild weight fluctuations from them. The best thing to do is try to have a healthy diet and avoid giving into urges you may have with an increased appetite from certain medications. The reason why some of these medications can cause weight gain is because they can increase your appetite and also some of them slow down your metabolism as well.

You are perfect!!! I'm 5'6" also and consider 135 to be my ideal weight. Please know that you are a very normal (even thin) woman. That being said, antidepressants did not make me gain any weight. And if they do for you, you can always try to eat a healthier diet or walk more frequently to maintain the beautiful and perfect weight you are now. I know weight is a tough issue, but your mental health is just as important (if not more important) than your weight.
