Is it wrong to not want to share a recipe?

My mother in law keeps trying to push me into sharing my favorite dessert recipe with her. I don't know, I just don't feel comfortable giving it up because I came up with it on my own and it's kind of my signature go to dessert. Plus she can never keep a recipe a secret. Once I tell her she might just tell the whole neighborhood. And I don't want that. Is it selfish?

Honestly I never got the whole secret recipe thing. If someone likes my food and wants to know how to make it thenselves then why wouldn't I share it? It just seems petty and selfish to say no. It's a recipe. We're all gonna die someday so why would I want to deprive old Mrs Hobbs next door of the best chocolate chunk and orange cookie recipe she'll ever taste. Honestly if I asked someone for a recipe and they refused I would view them as pretty immature.

I had a friend (who went to be with Jesus over a year ago) who had this amazing recipe for Christmas Tea! It was delicious and anyone who asked for it, she'd share the recipe with. Well, after she passed no one had the recipe but me. If she hadn't shared it, her legendary tea would've died with her. Her husband was so grateful that I had it and it continues to be a tea we still get to enjoy in memory of her. Plus, it's your mother-in-law. I don't know what that relationship is like but my mother-in-law and I LOVE to share our recipes with each other. It's a way that were able to connect. 😉 I'd love for everyone to enjoy my recipes!

I do certain things with food that I don't even tell me husband about lol and my grandma has her own recipe for Chicken and dressing that I am trying to master BC I am soon to be the one that starts making it for holidays and when people ask me for it, I tell them no. I don't mean to be rude but I just don't want my grandmothers recipe out there.

no it's not wrong. I have a really good recipe for teriyaki jerky that everyone asks me for and I usually give them something different lol.

lol I feel the same way. I just made a dish a week ago for my in laws and my brother in law kept asking my recipe/ingredients and I had to tell him no over and over again. It's a family dish that I'll only share with my future child.
