Bad Person

I've been looking for a dog for myself and toddler (mostly my toddler kinda like a first pet that he can grow with) well I have of course posted on Facebook looking around because I have several people on there and I know they could help me out. Well somebody suggested our local dog shelter. I told them that I didn't want a dog from there and they basically went off on me telling me I'm a bad person because I'd rather get a dog from somewhere else instead of saving one, the reason why is this dog is for my son, so many people have gotten animals from there and them die within days, sometimes within the next day. If you read the reviews so many people have had problems with that and I'm just scared of getting a dog from there bringing it home, my son falling in love with it and then it die within days of getting it. I mean am I wrong? People were backing this girl up and I truly would get a dog there if it wasn't for a child.
