He's not who I wanted
Felt the need to post this because in an era of heavy social media influence and people constantly talking about how great their SO is and how they are everything they could ever ask for I was honestly starting to have doubts about my relationship. 
But over the summer after a particularly bad rough patch, I realized something...
My boyfriend is not who I wanted to be with. We are polar opposites, we don't share likes and dislikes, and sometimes we struggle to even understand each other. But he is exactly who I NEED.
And I don't mean need in a sense that I can't be without him, but need in a way that we are helping to shape each other into better people. He challenges me everyday and makes me see the world in new perspectives.
Being with each other is not effortless and simple. Our relationship takes a lot of work. I am not his whole world and he doesn't make me happy every second of everyday; but that is why I love him so much. We are both wildly imperfect for each other and yet we can't be apart.
I truly believe we were brought into each other's lives not just so that we could grow together as a couple, but so we could grow individually.
I'm not afraid to say that my SO isn't my best friend, he's not perfect for me, he's not everything I dreamed of and asked for, and sure I might have been more comfortable with someone else; but I don't doubt for a second being by his side and I look forward to each day, each conversation, each fight, each success, and each failure because I continue to be more and more proud of the woman I have grown to become because of him.
Don't be put out because your relationship may not seem picture perfect. Being different does not mean you're incompatible, it means you love each other enough to go through hell and back to make things work.
