Clinic Depression

My boyfriend goes through phases of not feeling anything and has no motivation to do anything, including his school work which he is crazy about. One minute he'll say "I love you so much" and then the next he'll say "I don't know if I love you, but you make me happy and I care about you" I think he's going through something mentally in his head... I don't know what to do! He won't seek help for it.. I just i care so much and want to help but I can't. On top of that I feel it isn't fair to me either. Him saying he loves me then he doesn't..
