What are your thoughts on dry healing

Question

I've heard a lot of people like to dry heal their tattoos the fist two or three days to preserve color. I.e. Not putting anything to lube it up or moisturize. 
I'm getting color on my arm and I kinda want to see if it will make a color difference compared to my other color tattoos but I'm kinda scared.

In my experience not using a proper moisturizer will make it scab, thus taking all the colour with it. The one tattoo I didn't take care of looks like absolute shit now and I'll eventually have to get covered up. Your tattoos shouldnt scab at all really and should always get lots of moisture, I think that's a really dumb theory someone came up with

Someone I know didn't moisturize and kept it dry. It scanned up and the color looked like trash and looked aged after it was 'healed'. Biggest waste of money 😂

dry healing is a totally valid and useful way to heal tattoos!! it just wasn't for me.

For my very first tattoo, the artist recommended it to me but I found that my tattoo healed so much slower than my others. For example, it took about a week for my first to scab over & I just got one yesterday & it has already started scabbing over just from light washing & aquaphor.

I was a shop assistant in a tattoo shop for 4 years. I would suggest only 2 days of keeping the tattoo clean and dry then after use an unscented lotion. The first couple days your tattoo can seep a bit and adding a moisterizer to it during that time can make it seep even more.

Aside from it messing up your tattoo that would be extremely annoying with the itch and pain I wouldn’t want to do that 😬  i feel that i like beg for moisturizer when i get them done

no. any good tattoo artist will tell you A&D; and then unscented lotion until it's done peeling. not moisturizing would cause nothing but terrible itching, scabbing and a faded tattoo

Was told to do that with my first. it was awful. the entire thing yurned into a huge, thick scab that wven if i bumped it on the counter it would bleed. i lost color in so many places that when i went back in to have it touches up, he redid the entire thing. Now: i keep it wrapped the first three days in plastic wrap. I wash it every 4 hours with the blue Dawn dish soap, pat dry, and recover. Once 3 days is up i use a very very thin layer of A&D; a few times a day, usually when its feeling itchy or tight. The covering tricks your body so to speak into thinking there id a scab and it skips the scabbing. Everyone I know now does it that way and none of us have had any issue. Be careful using Aquaphor. It's good but very thick. use a THIN layer or you can clog your pores and get zits on your tattoo.

That’s the whole point of using ointment on it! Ask anyone with a tattoo or any tattoo artist. It’s pretty important to keep it moisturized in order for it to heal and not scab up. Keeping it dry will cause the color to actually become less vibrant. And scabbing can actually cause gaps in the tattoo.
