When did you give baby fingers foods?

When is it safe to give baby like peas and corn? Are those to big for an 8 month old? 
I know baby led weaning and I've been giving my son small bites of very soft foods like cheese and veggies and whatnot but still freaks me out to give him beans, peas, corn... when's it safe to give them that sort of thing??

My daughter has been eating those things since 6 months.

Black beans and sweet potatoes are her favorite! Just make sure everything is cooked really soft, and always supervise them.

My daughter never ate baby food. She hated every one we tried so we've been giving her normal food for about a month and a half. I just make sure everything is in tiny pieces. She has had chicken, meatloaf, crackers and many veggies and fruits.  She gags occasionally but has never choked.

we started at 6m... he only just got his bottom 2 teeth at that time... if the food was small enough (pea or bean size) he just swallows it whole, so we give him bigger sized stuff so he actually has to chew his food... and believe me he can chew it! they chew with their back gums so weather or not they have front teeth has no bearing on chewing! and yes my son ate steak already... like a champ! he loves chicken though lol

A lot of babies on here are advanced or have a lot of teeth. I used to feel like crap that my son hasn't eaten stuff like meat yet etc. When he was 6 months old I gave him tiny bits of banana, even now when he's got 2 bottom teeth and he's 9 months old he can only eat small things like cheerios, wafers or those crisp carrot sticks. He had a little breadstick with hummus on once to try but he gagged.
I've given him soft veg but he doesn't love it.
I just give him mash, puréed sachet food. A yogurt after a meal, cheese, chopped blueberries.
I tried toast and he likes it but twice now he has breathed it in and he proper choked to the point that I thought he was going to turn blue 😨

I’ve been giving finger foods since he was about six months and he’s had plenty of things bigger than that and just as firm. But I saw him doing really good at mashing up the smaller stuff before swallowing. It’s all about following their lead. You’ll know when they’re ready.
